XDS 2022 Health and Safety

Last Updated: Sept 1, 2022

On September 7-9, 2022, we will deliver a homecoming XDS event in Vancouver, Canada, not only to bring together a community of external development professionals, but to also celebrate a milestone: the 10th anniversary of the External Development Summit.

The health and safety of our attendees, sponsors, exhibitors and staff is top of mind. As such XDS 2022 we will work to ensure that 2022’s event complies with Canadian Federal, Provincial and Municipal health standards related to vaccination, masking and testing.

Planning for this year’s event includes actively engaging with key stakeholders including Vancouver Coastal Health and the Provincial Health Office – and we will be guided by their advice to ensure any COVID-19 protocols or recommendations related to indoor events are implemented.

Protocols will meet or exceed these standards.

For International Attendees (Non-Canadian Residents)

For international attendees to enter Canada, you must:

  • Be fully vaccinated (at least two doses of a two-dose or one dose of a one-dose vaccination) against COVID-19.
  • Present proof of vaccination and government issued photo ID at the XDS registration desk:
  • Must be official certificates, passes, cards, receipts, or confirmations that show any first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine received
  • Cannot only show a QR code
  • Must show as text in English, French or as a certified translation:
    • Attendee name
    • Name of the government or organization that administered the vaccine
    • Vaccine brand name
    • The date(s) you received the vaccine(s)
  • Use the ArriveCAN app within 72 hours of your arrival in Canada to provide mandatory travel and public health information before and after your entry into Canada.
    • NOTE: If you arrive without completing this information, you may have to test and quarantine for 14 days (regardless of vaccination status), and will not be able to attend XDS

NOTE: We do not accept a negative COVID test in place of a valid proof of vaccination in order to attend XDS.

As you plan your travel, please check your individual airlines to confirm any additional COVID-19 protocol for travel. Please refer to the Government of Canada website and the Province of British Columbia websites for additional information.

Be aware that the government of Canada has re-established mandatory random testing offsite of airports for air travelers. More information on random testing can be found here.

Before departing from XDS 2022, please be aware of your airline’s and country’s requirements for returning home.

For Canadian Resident Attendees

All Canadian guests are required to show government issued photo ID, and either the federal or provincial proof of vaccination, which is based on the international SMART Health Card (more info here). This may be in paper or digital form.

NOTE: We do not accept a negative COVID test in place of a valid proof of vaccination in order to attend XDS.

Example proof of federal and provincial vaccination:

IMPORTANT NOTE: If any attendee is not feeling well at all, they are instructed to NOT attend the event. This includes:

  • Exhibiting symptoms of cold, flu, or COVID-19
  • Have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within 10 days prior

Those in this situation who are staying at one of our on-site hotels should isolate in their room, and make the front desk aware of your situation. Dial “0” from your guestroom phone to have additional hotel items (towels, soap, toiletries, etc) delivered outside your door. In room dining is available 24/7 and will be a touchless delivery & tray pick up to allow you to isolate. Event registration fee will be refunded accordingly.

Further COVID19 Measures

The following additional health and safety measures will be put in place in order to create a safer environment for our attendees.

  • Guests can wear masks at their own comfort level, even though there is no mask mandate in British Columbia at this point in time
  • Masks will be available by request at both the main and the Connect Zone registration desks
  • Volunteers will have masks on hand for distribution by request on the conference floor.
  • Furniture is spaced out on the floor to allow for personal distancing.
  • Hand Sanitizer Stations are placed at the following locations:

    • Throughout the conference floor, and in each meeting area
    • Washrooms
